Superclubs, sunset bars and quiet coves, sometimes on the same day

Ibiza's clubbing reputation is deserved, but it's only half the story. The north of the island is all pine forests, farmhouse hotels and coves you can reach only on foot.
Ibiza Town's walled old quarter, Dalt Vila, is a UNESCO site, and the sunsets from the west coast are a ritual in their own right.
Top things to do in Ibiza
- 1
Dalt Vila
Walk up through the walls of the old town to the cathedral and views over the harbour.
- 2
Sunset at Café del Mar
Join the crowds on the San Antonio waterfront, or find a quieter spot at Cala Comte.
- 3
The north coast
Cala Xarraca, Benirràs and Portinatx are calmer, greener and more local.
- 4
Es Vedrà
A mysterious rock island off the south-west coast, best seen at sunset from Cala d'Hort.
- 5
Hippy markets
Las Dalias and Punta Arabí have sold crafts and clothes since the 1970s.
- 6
Formentera
Take the 30-minute ferry to Ses Illetes, often called one of Europe's best beaches.
Where to stay in Ibiza
- Ibiza Town and Playa d'en Bossa
For clubs, restaurants and the old town.
- San Antonio
Cheaper, lively, with the sunset strip.
- Santa Eulària and the north
Calmer and family-friendly, with smaller beaches.
Best time to visit Ibiza
Best value: May, Sep–Oct. June and September for warm seas without peak prices. The big clubs open from late May to early October.
Getting there and around
About 2h 15m from London to IBZ, and flights from most UK airports.
Buses link the main towns, and there's a night bus to the clubs in summer. A hire car or scooter helps for the quieter coves.
Day trips from Ibiza
- Formentera
White-sand beaches and Caribbean-blue water, 30 minutes by fast ferry.
- Sant Josep
A whitewashed village church and good restaurants in the south-west hills.
- Atlantis (Sa Pedrera)
An old quarry by the sea, reached on a steep walk from Cala d'Hort.
Good to know
- Big-name club tickets are cheaper bought online in advance.
- Never buy drugs: penalties are severe, and the FCDO warns of contaminated substances.
- Ibiza has a sustainable tourism tax, added per person per night at your hotel.
