Travel safety
Is India safe to visit?

Delhi, Agra, Rajasthan, Mumbai, Goa, Kerala and the Himalayan hill stations outside Kashmir have no FCDO warnings. The FCDO advises against all travel to Jammu & Kashmir (except Jammu city by air) and within 10km of the Pakistan border.

- Essential only
- Never travel
India's warnings are specific and political. They cover the disputed Kashmir region, the Pakistan border, and the north-eastern state of Manipur after ethnic violence. Everything else on a typical first trip is clear. The daily risks are scams, traffic and, for women, harassment.
