Dubrovnik is one of the most beautiful walled cities in the world, with a marble main street, terracotta rooftops and walls that run right around the old town above the sea.
It's very busy in summer when cruise ships are in, so walk the walls early or late, and use it as a base for islands and the Pelješac wine peninsula.
