Visas & entry
Vietnam: 45 days free, or the 90-day e-visa

45 days visa-free for British citizens. For longer trips, or for border hopping into Laos or Cambodia and back, get the 90-day multiple-entry e-visa, which fixes the entry and exit points you choose.
- No visa needed
- Apply online before you go
- Visa on arrival
- Visa in advance
Check the exit date stamped in your passport at the airport. The FCDO says immigration won't correct it once you've left the arrivals hall. Your passport also needs to be undamaged, with 2 blank pages and 6 months' validity.
Your options
- Up to 45 daysNo visa needed
Visa-free for tourism or business.
- e-Visa (90 days, multiple entry)Visa on arrival
Online. Valid only at the entry and exit points you name.
Visa-free or e-visa?
- Visa-free: British citizens can stay 45 days with just a passport.
- E-visa: apply on the official Vietnam immigration site for up to 90 days, single or multiple entry.
- Doing a loop through Cambodia or Laos? A multiple-entry e-visa saves a headache.
- Avoid agent sites that charge more for the same e-visa.
Before you fly
Check your passport is in good condition: tears, water damage or loose pages can get you refused boarding. Have your onward ticket ready, as airlines sometimes ask for it at check-in.
Before you go
- Leave on the same passport you arrived with.
- Emergency (ambulance): 115.
