Japan: no visa, but check your medicines

Medication is the thing to check. Japan is strict about some medicines that are common in the UK, such as stimulant-based ADHD medication and some decongestants. Check with the Japanese Embassy or TravelHealthPro before you go.

Changes to watch
Japan plans to introduce an online pre-travel authorisation, similar to the US ESTA, in the next few years. For now, British visitors can stay for up to 90 days with just a passport. We'll update this page when the scheme starts.
Before you go
- Passport needs a blank page.
- Emergency: 110 (police), 119 (ambulance).
